Hunting
ost Hyde County people and visitors are wild about
wildlife – and for good reason. Where else can you find worldclass
waterfowl and big game hunting available on both private and public land? If hunting is your passion, Hyde County is your nirvana.
First rate puddle duck and tundra swan hunting is
offered by private guides in flooded impoundments strategically located in
the vicinity of Lake Mattamuskeet. Mattamuskeet NWR hosts a lottery hunt
where lucky participants get a shot at pintails, mallards, black ducks,
wigeon, ringnecks and more. Waterfowl hunting is also open on Gull Rock and
New Lake Game Lands and Swanquarter NWR. Migratory bird hunting is
regulated by the State and Federal governments, so be sure you know the
rules – and your ducks! (links) (photo)
If big game is your bag, Hyde County is for you. Hunting guides have access to thousands of acres of wilderness with abundant
populations of white-tailed deer and black bear. Excellent public deer
hunting is also available on Pocosin Lakes and Mattamuskeet NWR and the Gull
Rock Game Land. Special regulations apply to the refuge and game land
hunts. (links) (photo)
