The Emergency Services Department now encompasses the Inspection-Code Enforcement Division; the Emergency Management Division; the Emergency Medical Services Division; and the Fire Marshall's Office.
The Emergency Services is responsible for Emergency Medical Services; Emeergency Management Services; Code Enforcement Services; 9-1-1 Data and CAD Administration, and Hyde County's telecommunications systems. The current Director of this Department is David Warren.
The Emergency Management/Code Enforcement Administrataive Technician provides administrative support to the Emergency Management Division and Code Enforcement and assistant for the Director of the Emergency Services Department. This position prepares, plans and peforms grant management for Emergency Management and schedules Code Enforcement inspections. They accept and process code enforcement permit applications; assig applications to staff personnel for necessary inspections and follow-through. They also serve as back-up EMT-1. Position currently held by Jane Hodges.
The EMT/Emergency Management/Code Enforcement/Deputy Fire Marshall, when certified, will also serve as an extra or full-time (depending on need) EMT. This position also provides fire inspection services and field support for Emergency Management/Code Enforcement Services. Once certified, the person holding this position will perform the building and fire inspections on Ocracoke. They will also oversee the emergency radio system and all County owned generators. This position is currently held by Justin Myers.
The Code Enforcement Office will perform Code Enforcement functions, including buildng inspections and flood inspections. This position is currently held by Jerry Hardison.
The 9-1-1 Database and CAD Administrator/GIS Technician/Telecommunications Coordinator will maintain, adminster and enhance the 9-1-1 and computer-aided dispatch operated in the Hyde County Dispatch Center. This position develops and utilizes the county GIS, provides customized maps, and trains personnel in other County Departments to utilize GIS. This position also oversees the maintenance and development of all County telephone and data systems (including 9-1-1 and dispatch equipment) principally through contract development and monitoring. This position also serves as back-up EMT-B. Position currently held by Justin Gibbs.
The EMS Billing Technician will serve as the bookkeeper fo EMS billing and collections and oversee the Department purchasing, organize scheduling and coordinate certification needs. This position also serves as an EMT-B for EMS. The position is currently held by Cyrstal Edgar.
