The Hyde County Elections office is located beside O.A. Peay School in Swan Quarter. We are open on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 am until l:00 pm. Just prior to an election, our hours are extended until 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday for One-Stop Voting.
We are most visible when the polls open and an election is being decided. Elections only happen two (or three times) each even numbered year. At other times, this office is busy registering new voters, updating existing voter information, and taking care of a number of behind-the-scenes duties that aid in the democratic process.
We are excited about our new voting machines and encourage all voters to experience the new technology.
Director, Cindy Carawan and Deputy Director, Portia Gibbs, have both received certification from the State Board of Elections as of August 19, 2005.
The Hyde County Board of Elections is comprised of three members that are appointed by the Democratic and Republican parties. Currently serving as board members are: William F. Williams, (D) Chairman; Frank H. Falkson, (R) Secretary; and Alice S. Mackey, (D), Member.
Voter registration forms are available at this office and on the State Board of Elections website (See link at bottom of page). Forms may also be picked up at the Department of Motor Vehicles and various state and public agencies in Hyde County. Call this office at 252-926-4194 for more information.
